Jet Boat Tours

Jet Boating at North Nahanni Naturalist Lodge

North Nahanni Naturalist Lodge

North Nahanni Naturalist Lodge guests have the option of travelling to the lodge by jet boat, with experienced and licenced Dene guides. Travel to the lodge downriver from Fort Simpson on the magnificent and historic Mackenzie River, and upriver on the winding and scenic North Nahanni River, amid the towering ridges of the Nahanni Range and the Nahanni Mountains. It’s a scenic four to six hour trip with opportunities to fish, take photographs, or hike, depending on your personal preferences. The jet boat trip also offers above average opportunities to spot wildlife.

There is an easy 45 to 60 minute hike at the end of the jet boat trip. The hike takes you through the thick boreal forest along Cli Creek in a gap in the Nahanni Range where Cli Lake runs into the Tetcela River. Guests hike along a scenic trail which ends near the headwaters of Cli Creek. Here a boat stands by to transfer guests to the lodge. Personal gear and effects are transported by our guides and an all-terrain vehicle. It’s a very easy hike. All you need to carry is your camera.

Travelling between rivers

North Nahanni Naturalist Lodge

Single or multi-day river tours by jet boat or other watercraft are also offered on the North Nahanni, Root, Mackenzie and Ram rivers, based from the lodge or Fort Simpson, with many scenic stops for photography enthusiasts. We can tailor your Nahanni experience to suit your needs and schedule.

The lodge has access to one fully equipped jet boat which can carry six guests comfortably and includes personal flotation devices and all necessary safety equipment, canvas covers, luggage racks and a canoe rack. For the enthusiastic photographer or sightseer, we’ve even reserved a chair on the jet boat’s raised carrier rack. Snacks and refreshments are provided on the trip to the lodge, with dinner and a comfortable bed at the lodge upon arrival. We can arrange for additional boats for larger groups if required.

The lodge has four canoes and four boats for the use of our guests, with or without a guide. Canoe down scenic Cli Creek, where beavers or waterfowl can be observed and photographed. Or paddle across the lake to the foot of the mountain. Gasoline and all necessary safety equipment are provided for all of our boats.
